Nicene Terminology Defended by Athanasius of Alexandria in De Decretis Nicaenae Synodi and the Possible Influence of Eusebius' Epistula ad Caesarienses
Original language description
The article compares two theological narratives on the proceedings of the Nicene Council (325) leading to the subscription of the Nicene Creed, the Eusebios' Letter to his Diocese and the treatise by Athanasios On the Decrees of Nicaea. It focuses on passages from De decretis 19 and 20 where polemical hints of formulations in the Eusebios' letter may be determined. In De decretis 24 the two-stage structure of the definition of homousios may have been preserved from the Eusebios' letter and in De decretis 25 an implicit hint to the mention of Nicene predecessors in the Eusebios' letter can be traced.
