Das Kapitel befasst sich mit der Sündenlehre des Clemens von Alexandria, die am systematischsten im Exkurs über die christlichen Tugenden im zweiten Buch des Stromat behandelt wird. Es wird untersucht, wie Clemens die Lehre des Aristoteles (Nikomachische Ethik) umarbeitet und wie er mit ausgewählten Stellen der neutestamentlichen Briefe (Hebr 10,26-27; Röm 7,11-25) in der Auseinandersetzung mit der valentinianischen Gnosis umgeht.
