In general appearance, adult Trichoceridae most resemble small and medium - sized Limoniidae, differing from all other Tipulomorpha by the presence of ocelli, and by vein A2 being short, mostly abruptly curved towards the wing margin. Adults are often reported as occurring in caves, cellars, and other darkened places, including rodent burrows, but they may frequently be observed flying at wet places.
