Original language description
At least 98 wild Lactuca spp. have been described in world literature. There are enormous differences in the continental distribution and biodiversity between Lactuca taxa. A total of 27 wild Lactuca spp. has been reported in germplasm collections summarized in the #International Lactuca database# (ILDB); but due to incorrect taxonomical determination the real number is lower. Only 20% of the known Lactuca spp. mostly belonging to the European group, is available in gene banks. About 90-95% of all available wild Lactuca accessions represent three species L. serriola, L. saligna and L. virosa.

Ve světové literatuře je popsáno 98 planých druhů rodu Lactuca. Existují velké rozdíly v kontinentálním rozšíření a biodiverzitou jednotlivých taxonů. V Mezinárodní databázi Lactuca (ILDB) je evidováno 27 druhů, nicméně díky nesprávnému taxonomickému určení je reálný počet druhů daleko menší. V genových bankách je dostupných asi 20% známých druhů většinou evropských. Asi 90-95% položek representují L. serriola, L. saligna a L. virosa.
