In 2016, 60 years have passed since the founding of Herbarium of the Department of Botany at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University in Olomouc. Herbarium is an important part of the Department of Botany since 1946 and it is registered in the list of the world public herbaria in the database of the New York Botanical Garden - Index herbariorum - under the herbarium code OL. It contains about 150 000 herbarium specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes and the set of Diatomea permanent slides. Among the significant collectors whose herbarium specimens are kept in this Herbarium belong V. Bednář, J. Dostál, O. Mrkos, J. Šula, and B. Trávníček. Thanks to a project of Centre of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University, in 2015 the Herbarium moved to the ground floor space of the modern renovated building on Šlechtitelů street no. 27 in Olomouc-Holice, where the herbarium specimens are kept in special herbarium boxes and stored in a sliding rack system.
