Complex research aimed on the structure and variation of Lactuca serriola - Bremia lactucae pathosystem has been realized in the Czech Republic in the period 1997-2001. Host populations were more or less susceptible to B. lactucae, but there was recordeda large variation in the type of symptoms and degree of infection. Obtained data on virulence of B. lactucae isolates revealed that the virulence structure is heterogeneous at the population level, and is completely different in comparison with pathogenpopulations originating from the crop pathosystem L. sativa - B. lactucae.
