The text deals with the topic of educating pupils with a different mother tongue in the Czech Republic. It presents the relevant terminology, legal provisions, conditions, that are in the Framework education programme for basic education. It also presents the results of our researches, that were proceeded in two stages: first: how can teacher support a pupil who is not proficient in the language of instruction, and subsequently, the teachers'readiness and preparation to manage the instruction of pupilswith a different mother tongue .
