Review of the recent research on the role of headteacher in teacher development
Original language description
During the past decades, school leadership has become a priority development area in many European countries. There is a large body of evidence suggest that effective school leadership is essential to improve the efficiency and equity of schooling. On the basis of the analyses of published research findings, the main aim of this review is to tackle the issue of the headteacher's role in teacher development. Research shows that the headteacher's role is pivotal in teacher development since they can function as teacher's supporters, instructional leaders, teacher educators and facilitators.
