The paper presents a brief description of the Camphill Community as an international residential institution for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The paper points to the reasons and conditions behind the foundation of the first Camphill Community, its philosophical roots, and curative education, the principles of which are used in Camphill. The paper further describes the evolution of the first Camphill Communities into today's worldwide movement and outlines the history and present state of two regions of the movement, namely North America and Central Europe.
