Experience of Families with Children with Severe Multiple Disabilities: Transformations and Positive Aspects
Original language description
The issues of transformations, positive experience and achieving greater personal maturity are important for current research in families of disabled children. This article focuses on the issue of transformations in individuals with severe multiple disability (SMD). Authors use data from qualitative research of lived experience of families of children with SMD that included 11 participants. A combination of semi-structured interviews and case studies of children with SM was used to collect data. The data was further analysed using thematic analysis. The respective transformations were directed at the individual family members, sometimes families as a whole and at the perception of the child's personality. The results are discussed also in light of the need to develop theories in the field of education of these persons.
