Quality of Life in Relation to Persons of Senior Age with Visual Impairment: Survey Study
Original language description
Nowadays, it is already well known that people live longer than they did in the past. In relation to this trend, i.e. the aging of the population, it is not any different for people with visual impairment. Visual impairment affects the quality of life of people, not just seniors, but across the whole life of the individual. The aim of the review study was to analyze the research findings of the issue of the quality of life of people with visual impairment in the elderly age by means of the selection, evaluation and synthesis of research results. Searches from EBSCO, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest databases and freely available databases such as Libraries.com and Google Scholar were made in the 2013-2019 period using the keywords "visual impairment", "senior" and "quality of life". Seven research studies that were subject to pre-defined inclusion criteria were included in the review study. The analysis shows that there is a link between visual impairment and quality of life and that this issue is still relevant in the field of scientific research. The analysis also required the need for awareness of visual impairment and its consequences for the quality of life, not only among professionals but also seniors with visual impairment. The paper presents the results of theoretical-critical analysis of existing research in the area of quality of life of seniors with visual impairment.
