Selected Aspects of Sexual Education of People with Intellectual Disabilities.

  • Original language description

At present, everybody has the right to full participation and life in society. One of the important areas of human life includes partnerships and sexuality. However, in persons with intellectual disability, this has been taboo until recently. For some time, researchers have tried to analyse this area both in terms of theory and practical implementation. The purpose of the paper is to present the selected aspects of research on sexuality and sexuality education from the perspective of the employees of social services for persons with intellectual disability. The main objective of the study was through quantitative data collection methods (questionnaires) to analyse the current situation in the area of sexuality and sexuality education of persons with intellectual disability in social services in the Czech Republic. The aim was to describe, analyse, interpret, and subsequently identify whether or not there is a statistically significant association between those important factors that could influence the attitudes of the employees to sexuality, sexuality education and its implementation. The authors of the paper used the conclusions based on the analysis and testing of the hypotheses to design relevant recommendations and propose further steps including areas that special education should focus on in terms of theory, methodology, and implementation in practice. The purpose of the paper is to present one of the main objectives of the research, which was to identify the employees’ attitude to sexuality education of persons with intellectual disability and to determine whether or not there is a statistically significant difference in the employees’ attitudes to sexuality education of persons with intellectual disability by age.
