Special pedagogical diagnostics in children with visual impairment: a review study
Original language description
The paper summarizes the current state of diagnostics in people with visual impairments, focusing mainly on the category of partially-sighted persons. We understand special pedagogical diagnostics as a scientific discipline which represents a system of knowledge focused on the possibilities and means of learning about the individual peculiarities of an individual with a disability. In the Czech Republic, diagnostic activities are carried out in order to set up support measures at the start of compulsory schooling by staff in school counselling facilities (pedagogical-psychological counselling centres, special-pedagogical centres). Preschool age represents the stage in which it is necessary to develop visual perception for obtaining, processing and grasping information from the environment. Areas such as perception of detail, perception of figure and background, visual-motor skills and more. These and other areas can be examined, for example, with the In-Sight test for visually impaired children between the ages of 6 and 12. The main goal of the paper is to describe the current situation in the Czech Republic, depending on the availability of diagnostic materials for visually impaired people in preschool age in connection with education. The paper is based on the results of selected research, which focused on the analysis of setting support measures for pupils with special educational needs and the current state of diagnosis of special educational needs of Czech school pupils and a list of diagnostic materials used. For the purposes of the research plan, an overview study was chosen. The results of the review study show to think about the need to create a new tool in the Czech environment, which would be suitable for setting up support measures for children, pupils and students with visual impairments. The current analysis also shows the need to create a new diagnostic tool which is freely available and intended for children with visual impairment.
