George Gershwin: An American In Paris (Arranger: Petr Vrána) Arrangement for string quartet (2021)
Original language description
Instrumental adaptation of Gershwin´s tone poem "An American In Paris" for string quartet is registered as a derivative work by Petr Vrána (*1976) at the OSA - Collective rights management society for musical works in Czech Republic. This material could be considered as an unusual and unique adaptation of this masterpiece in its full length. With regard to the instrumental specifics of the string instruments, all key signatures are adjusted to correspond to the performing practise of the string quartet. This is the reason why an entire score is written in C and all key changes are expressed using appropriate accidentals. Thus, the piece can be more intelligible and practical for players. Most current tempos and tempo changes are displayed by using metronome markings. Several time signatures are redistributed, therefore the total number of measures is different from original edition (New York: New World Music Corp., Harms Inc., 1930). This sheet music is intended for the professional and renowned players or ensembles who have already reached the highest technical and interpretive erudition. Their large experience with chamber music is also expected. Therefore, any fingerings are completely missing here and only bowings, articulations, dynamics, expressive and technique markings, tempo marks and tempo alterations are included. This arrangement may also be useful in teaching process of chamber music or it may serve as effective and motivating study material for students and lecturers at higher levels of music education. This material could also be a beneficial enrichment in concert programs of chamber music.
