The Concept of Readiness of Employees of Selected Residential Social Services in the Context of Emergency Situations in the Czech Republic

  • Original language description

In the context of emergency situations, the preparedness of residential social service workers can have an impact on the impact of these situations on service users. These are mostly people with disabilities who need (with regard to individual categories of disability) different levels of support from other people. In emergency situations, service workers often become the only competent persons who can effectively intervene and prevent the fatal consequences of such a situation. In the given context, however, it is necessary to ask whether these workers are prepared for such situations and what, according to the workers, is readiness at all. Objective: To present the results of a pilot study with the aim of finding out how workers of selected residential social services perceive the concept of preparedness in the context of emergency situations. Methods: As part of the pilot study, a qualitative approach with an exploratory-descriptive character was used. An interview technique was used to collect data. Content analysis was used to analyze them. Results: Through the content analysis of the obtained data, 3 categories were identified in the context of readiness - personal, professional and organizational readiness. These were further specified using summary protocols. Conclusion: Even residential service workers can feel fear and anxiety when dealing with emergency situations, stemming, for example, from a sense of their own (un)preparedness. Closely related to this is the concept of self-efficacy, which will be the subject of further investigation within the main research of the author's dissertation.
