Articulatory movements in speech assessment: a survey with implications for the professional training of speech and language therapists

  • Original language description

The primary aim of the present study was to investigate how Czech speech-language therapists evaluate speech sound production, with a particular focus on the assessment of articulatory movements. A secondary aim relates to the undergraduate education of future speech-language therapists, as the methods and strategies used in assessment represent a key competency that must be an integral part of their core initial curriculum. The results indicate that Czech speech-language therapists rely primarily on auditory and visual perceptual information when assessing SSDs. This suggests that they recognize the importance of both domains in spoken communication and are able to conduct real-time analyses, extracting at least some key characteristics.
