There is now doubt about affecting the quality of life through the physical activity. Benefits of physical activities do not differ significantly between people with mental handicap and those without any handicap. For people with mental handicap though,social interaction at the physical activity plays very important role. Participation on sport meetings and competitions is for people with mental handicap often the only opportunity to meet the other non-handicapped population. Many studies have shown that the programs of Special Olympics can increase social and motor competence of its participants (Lord, 2000; Leffert, 2000; Válková, 1995). However there is a question, whether the same effect can be reached in the field of social behaviour and psychomotor indices through the different intervention programs (e.g. arts & crafts activities).
