Optimization models in agriculture and natural resources: the validation and verification process
Original language description
Now more than ever, identifying optimal policies is of strategic importance to address problems critical to the economy and the environment. Due to the rapidly increasing demands of world population and simultaneous increasing exploitation of natural resources, the precise identification of the optimal ANRE (agriculture and natural resources economics) policies ensuring the sustainable development of the society is essential. Since the beginning of the mathematical programming science the up-to-date mathematical methods were applied to create decision support systems for the ANRE management. But, the application of mathematical programming methods is less successful here than in other areas and industries. This is probably due to the inherent complexity of ANRE problems which is uneasy to describe mathematically. Hence, for the ANRE models developed processing the well designed verification and validation procedures is essential to evaluate the suggested decision support tools. This co
