Standard of living in European Union
Original language description
The paper focuses on the issues of definition of the standard of living and factors influencing its level. Specific attention is paid to the indicators of living standard indicators, issues brought by frequent utilization of GDP as an indicator of the standard of living and its comparison with alternative indicators. Decisive importance for determining the standard of living has the income situation of households. Coming from the EU SILC survey, attention is paid to the income distribution of households, setting the poverty limits, measuring income disparity, poverty issues, its causes and effects. Situation in five selected EU countries is monitored -- Czech Republic, Finland, France, Spain and United Kingdom.
