he aim of this contribution is to analyse the changes in the key social indicators such as poverty and hunger, education, health and gender equality in Nigeria with reference to the United Nations MDGs, which was set to be achieved between 1990 and 2015.The study attempted to assess the progress and challenges the country faces in the course of delivering on the promises it has made to its citizens, to better their living standards in measurable terms within the time frame for attainment of the MDGs. The available secondary data obtained from reliable sources for the period 1990-2013, indicate that Nigeria has made remarkable progress in many targets. However, the country is not likely to achieve all the goals as many of the targets are still laggingbehind the 2015 deadline. To be specific, the Nigeria is not likely to attain the target of reducing poverty as over 60% of the population still live in abject poverty, but there is improvement in hunger reduction target.
