Transformation of pea (Pisum sativum L.)
Original language description
Pea, an important model plant for studies of phytohormone metabolism, apical dominance and other physiological processes, was earlier considered to be recalcitrant to genetic engineering. Recent advances in tissue culture methods have made it possible toobtain fertile transgenic pea plants (Puonti-Kaerlas et al. 1990, Davies et al. 1993, Schroeder et al. 1993 and Bean et al. 1997). In our experiments three methods for producing transgenic pea plants were used. Lateral cotyledonary meristems, sections from embryonic axis and nodal segments of germinating mature seeds of cv. Vladan, Ctirad, Cezar, Puget, Junos, Oskar and Havel were used as primary explants.
