Comparing of antioxidant capacity rates evaluated in samples of less common fruit species
Original language description
Various berries and fruit types of less common fruit species are known to be rich in antioxidant content. High rates of polyphenolic compounds are hypothesized to have biological activities that may impact positively human health. In these studies, flavonoid-rich extracts from less common fruit species: Honeysuckle (Lonicera edulis, Turcz. ex. Freyn), Saskatoon fruit (Amelanchier alnifolia Nutt.), and Hawthorn (Crataegus pinnatifida), grown in genepool of Mendel University in Brno -- Czech Republic, wasobtained and characterized in terms of relative antioxidant capacity. The evaluation of antioxidant content was based on total flavonoid amount, detected by HPLC-ED method compared to reference method - the DPPH test. Studies showed that the Hawthorn fruit extract represents significantly highest health benefits of all studied genotypes. The HPLC-ED method followed any of reference tests, seems to be the optimal progress brings out global benefits of antioxidants contained in extracts.
