HPLC with electrochemical detection for studying of synthesis of phytochelatins in cadmium treated linum
Original language description
In the case of uncontrolled levels of heavy metals in organism, Formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is initiated. ROS disturb homeostasis of organism by oxidation of essential cellular structures, such as nucleic acids and proteins. Both animal and plant organisms have very effective defending system, which includes synthesis of small peptide glutathione (GSH). Contrary to animals, plants are limited because of sedentary way of life and impossibility to escape from metal-contaminated areas. Therefore, plant cells have defending mechanisms including synthesis of protective phytochelatins (PCs) from GSH by phytochelatin synthase. PCs are able to detoxify heavy metal ions by number of thiol groups.
