Possibilities of microscopic detection of heavy metals ions in plant tissues
Original language description
Questions of environment pollution, especially by heavy metals, but also by organic pollutants, are nowadays increasingly upto-date. On this account, it is necessary to develop techniques and methods enabling detection of these pollutants. Spectroscopicmethods including fluorescence microscopy can successfully solve these questions. We are able to easily detect aromatic polyphenols and aromatic compounds in a cell, because these substances are fluorescent without addition of dyes. Ions of heavy metals(especially multivalent) as well as aromatic compounds with free -OH groups are able to bind these compounds and significantly change their ability to emit radiation after UV/VIS excitation. Our experiments were based on application of different heavy metals ions (cadmium and lead in concentrations 0, 10, 50, 100, and 500 mikroM) on hydroponically and in vitro cultivated plants of sunflower - Helianthus annuus L. Growth of experimental plants was inhibited by the presence of heavy metal
