    The barley plants of F4 generation with different level of drought tolerance were subjected to gradual desiccation. The progeny was developed from a reciprocal cross between two parent varieties with contrast morphological features. In nine terms, we evaluated RWC and Dhn4 gene expression as a marker of intensity of the stress protective reaction. Although the changes of RWC were very similar during desiccation, we were able to distinguish genotypes with the different level of drought tolerance according to their Dhn4 gene expression. Tadmor and F4 progeny of plants with better growth parameters showed more intensive expression of Dhn4 gene, mainly in the latest stages of plant desiccations.
