Effect of genotype on growth and basic carcass characteristic in lambs

  • Original language description

The main aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the genotype on the growth and basic carcass characteristics of purebred lambs of Šumavská breed and its crossbreeds with Texel breed. The experiment was carried out on the organic farm in Proseč inthe Pardubice region. The genotype had a significant effect on most of monitored live weights and daily gains. The highest daily gains in all the intervals were found in Š 75 T 25. By contrast, the lowest daily gain for the whole period of experiment was found in T 75 Š 25. The genotype had also a significant effect on most of basic carcass characteristics. However, this factor did not have a significant effect on fattness score. Generally it can be stated that the best basic carcass characteristics were found in Š 50 T 50. In contrast, the worst conformation score was found in Š 100, and the highest fattness score in Š 75 T 25.
