The effect of garlic extract on performance parameters of chickens

  • Original language description

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 2 doses of garlic extract (Allium sativum) added to the diet for fattening male broiler Ross 308 on performance parameters of chickens. Cockerels (n = 102) were divided into 3 groups. Two experimentalgroups (G10 and G15) obtained feed mixture with 10 and 15 g of liquid garlic extract per kg, respectively. Control group (C) had diet without garlic extract. At the age of 39 days broilers were slaughtered and percentage of eviscerated carcase, breast meat and leg meat were calculated. The average live weight at day of slaughtered was 2.30 +- 0.10 kg, 2.34 +- 0.06 kg and 2.52 +- 0.13 kg in groups G10, G15 and C, respectively. The mean percentage of eviscerated carcase (as a percentage of liveweight) was69%, 68% and 70%, the percentage of breast meat was 20%, 21% and 21%, the percentage of leg meat was 16%, 15% and 16% in groups G10, G15 and C, respectively. Effect on performance parameters was non-significant (P > 0.05).
