Effect of genotype on chosen indicators of carcass value of lambs
Original language description
The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the genotype on selected carcass value indicators. The experiment included lambs of genotypes V100, V50ML50 and V50T50. All animals included in the experiment were kept under identical conditions. The impact of the genotype was apparent (P LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.01) in the V50T50 lambs compared to the V100 lambs. This trend did not apply only to the carcass yield, kidney fat and fatness score. V50ML50 lambs had lower values than V50T50 in all pointers but without clear statistical evidence (P GREATER-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.05). The weight of the rumps as a highly valuable part of the carcass was 4.8 +- 0.5 kg for lambs V50T50, 4.0 +- 0.62 kg for V50ML50 and 3.2 +- 0.19 kg for V100. The V50T50 animals reached significantly (P LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.01) the highest conformation score (3.3 +- 0.8). In lambs of V100, this indicator was significantly (P LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.01) the lowest (1.6 +- 0.5). On the other hand, these lambs had a higher fatting rate where the fatness score was 3.0 +- 1.1.
