Evaluation of sperm motility in stallion ejaculates
Original language description
The aim of this study was to compare sperm motility assessment observed by objective and subjective method. Objective motility assessment was monitored by a computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA) system. Subjective method was observed by using a phase-contrast microscope and estimating percentage of motile sperms. Ejaculate was obtained from stallions from Zemský Hřebčín Tlumačov. Total 50 samples of ejaculate were evaluated by both methods. Mean value of sperm motility evaluated by subjective method (74.10 %) was lower than by CASA (88.62 %). Pearson correlation coefficient (r = 0.28) indicates that with increasing values of sperm motility obtained by CASA, the difference between subjective and objective method of motility evaluation is increasing.
