Utilization of the Weather Generator for Maize and Wheat Growth Simulations in Climate Change Impact Studies
Original language description
Two long-term field experiments (1980-1997 and 1975 1993) were used as a data source for parameterization and validation of the two crop models CERES-Maize and CERES-Wheat. As model weather input data synthetic weather series were used obtained both by direct modification of observed series and by a stochastic weather generator in order to estimate climate change impacts on crop yield. The parameters of the weather generator are based on outputs of observed series and modified in accordance with climatechange scenarios based on the GCM ECHAM3/T42. A sensitivity analyses was made to reveal the role of projected changes of individual weather characteristics and direct effect of CO2 on crop growth. The results suggest that under our conditions thepositive direct effect of increased CO2 is greater than the negative effect related to changed climate conditions for both the maize and wheat crop.
