Effects of sex and age upon utilization of manganese and copper in chickens
Original language description
Effects of sex and age of chickens upon manganese and copper utilization was investigated in an experiment with eight groups of chickens receiving 68 mg of Mn and 9.6 mg Cu per 1 kg of consumed dry matter (BR1) and eight groups receiving only 51 mg of Mnand 9.3 mg of Cu (BR2). During the growing period from Day 12 to Day 56, the experiment was divided into 15 balance periods. Utilization of manganese of both diets and content of Mn per 1 g of live body gain highly significantly (P<0.01) linearly increased with age. Dependence of utilization of copper and concentration of this element in body gains on age were parabolic with the minimum values at 26 - 34 days. The growth rate of the total amount of both elements in the organism was higher than that ofbody weight. Allometric coefficients for Mn were 1.88 0.050 and 1.68 0.057 and for Cu 1.36 0.048 and 1.20 0.055 for chickens fed on diets BR1 and BR2, respectively. The effect of sex on values under study was not significant.
