Effects of sex and age upon utilization of manganese in chickens.
Original language description
Effects of sex and age of chickens upon manganese utilization was investigated in an experiment with eight groups of chickens receiving 68 mg of Mn per 1 kg of consumed dry matter (BR1) and eight groups receiving only 51 mg of Mn (BR2). During the growing period from Day 12 to Day 56, the experiment was divided into 15 balance periods. For diets BR1 and BR2, the average coefficients of Mn retention, as determined in 120 balance experiments, were 0.065 + 0.0042 and 0.070 + 0.0066, resp. Utilization of manganese of both diets and contents of Mn per 1 g of live body gain increased linearly and highly significantly (P<0.01) with age. The growth rate of the total amount of Mn in the organism was higher than that of body weight. Allometric coefficients for Mn were 1.88 + 0.050 and 1.68 + 0.057 for chickens fed on diets BR1 and BR2, respectively. The effect of sex on values under study was not significant.
