    Beech is one of the most common tree species in Central Europe with high storage of volume in forests and good properties for plenty of utilizations. However, durability of beech wood and dimensional stability is quite bad, thus utilizations for outdooror moist rooms are limited or impossible. That is why activities to improve usages of beech wood for new, innovative products are increas ing during last years. The wood research group at the Mendel University started in 2013 with a project to modify unfavorable properties of beech wood to realize better or more utilizations for indoor or outdoor flooring systems.
