Prediction of Graft Incompatiblity in Young Apricot Trees

  • Original language description

Polyphenols in the phloem above and below the graft union of one-year old apricot trees, were studied using HPLC. Cultivars 'Marlen','Leskora' and 'Betinka', bred in the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, were budded on to the following rootstocks: 'M-LE-1', 'Lesiberian', 'MY--KL--A', 'Tetra', 'Penta', 'Green gage', 'Julior', 'MRS 2/5' and 'Ishtara'. Samples of phloem were taken in the dormant period and freeze-dried. Seven different polyphenols were determined: phloroglucinol, catechin, p-coumaric acid and non-identified phenols with retention time 23 min, 24 min, 25 min and30 min. The levels of individual polyphenols in each cultivar varied with the different combinations of rootstocks. The quality and quantity of polyphenol substances produced wereinduced with the level of graft incompatibility between the cultivar and rootstock.
