The book summarizes the results of research into the theory and development of the Chinese garden art. It was created in years 2004--2008 on the basis of in situ study of the topic and the documentation produced by the authors during their study stays. The topic is dealt with in two parts. The first part focuses on the theoretical background for the development of the Chinese garden art. It describes the relationships between the garden and the dwelling, the ideological concepts behind and the space composition of a Chinese garden. The second part presents the results of the study of specific examples of two basic types of Chinese gardens -- imperial and private. It provides the information to the development and composition of individual gardens, together with photos and ground plans. The publication has an educational purpose. It may serve for students of schools of architecture, for culture employees, and also for the broad public. Content: 328 pages, 575 photographs, 17 ground plan
