Use of antivirals for Carlavirus elimination in Allium sativum L

  • Original language description

Carlaviruses can cause serious damage, in the Potyvirus presence particularly. Garlic common latent virus (GCLV) and Shallot latent virus (SLC) were detected in plants of Czech garlic genotypes 'Dukát' and 'Unikát' by two-step RTPCR. In vitro chemotherapy using rimantadine and zidovudine was applied to eliminate these viruses, both at concentrations 25 and 50 mg L-1. Cloves of the infected bulbs were cultivated on MS medium with antivirals for two weeks. Meristems of size 1 mm were excised from treatedcloves and cultivated on MS medium with growth regulators without antivirals. Young plants were tested after the first two months. The antiviral effect on the virus elimination as well as a health of garlic was evaluated. Antivirals were effective in theSLV elimination but ineffective in the GCLV elimination. Both antivirals did not have a negative effect on health condition and they supported plant growth in comparison to the control variant. Obtained results were statistically analyze
