The Czech Garden Art of the Classicism and the Romantism in the Context of European Development (1720-1850)

  • Original language description

The second exhibition of the series "Czech garden art and landscape architecture in the context of European development" is devoted to the period between 1720 and 1850 and the artistic styles of Baroque Classicism, Rococo, Empire, and Romanticism. In all these stylistic periods, gardens successfully reflected the character of the time, society and its ideas. Like the first exhibition in 2018 -''Czech garden art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods in the context of European development (1550-1720)", the second exhibition is also primarily pictorial and presents the development trends in European garden art and their influence on the garden culture and gardens in the Czech Republic in 40 large-format panels with accompanying texts. Gardens have become part of the national culture and identity and the timeless values associated with character and changes in Czech architecture, settlements, and landscape. The presented period is mostly characterized by three main garden prototypes, which influenced Czech gardens both directly and indirectly. They are the French garden, the English landscape garden, and the Chinese garden. The exhibition presented, "Czech garden art of Classicism and Romanticism in the context of European development (1720-1850)", describes and presents all the above-mentioned topics and contexts. It thereby contributes to the rehabilitation of the garden as a cultural environment and its perception as a topic fully evolving topic within the Western culture, in relation to both architecture and art.
