The paper presents results of an analysis of developmental trends of imports, exports and balance of Czech foreign trade with agro-alimentary commodities. The main attention was paid to evaluation of the average level, variability and developmental trends of trade with the commodity group of Foodstuffs and live animals that was dominant among other groups of SITC commodities within the transformation period of the Czech national economy (1993?1999). As far as imports, exports and developmental trends oftrade with the commodity group of Foodstuffs and live animals that was dominant among other groups of SITC commodities within the transformation period of the Czech national economy (1993?1999). As far as imports, exports and balance of foreign trade are concerned. The difference between exports and imports of foodstuffs and live animals was markedly manifested in the balance of foreign trade with this commodity group.
