INTERACTION OF ISOLATED EMBRYO AND ENDOSPERM OF BARLEY CARYOPSE
Original language description
Isolated embryos and endosperms of malt barley caryopses (dormant cv. Krona and non-dormant cv. Akcent) were cultivated in vitro on 0.8 % agar and 1% sucrose. The relationship between endogenous ABA (abscisic acid) level, production of ethylene and germination of isolated embryos was studied. At the beginning of the experiment the ABA level was higher in embryos of Akcent than in embryos of Krona. The ABA level was the same in endosperms of both barley cultivars. The ABA level decreased in the endospermof Akcent significantly than in the endosperm of Krona after a 3-day combined culture of embryos and endosperms. ABA from endosperm of Krona probably decreased the growth of roots and coleoptile of the isolated embryo of Akcent. If the embryos of Akcent(high ABA level) were cultivated near the endosperms of Krona, the ABA level in endosperms decreased.
