Heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Cr, Cd) concentrations in the Parvitaenia ardeolate Burt, 1940 (Cestoda) and the host Ardea cinetea (Aves).
Original language description
Using the atomic absorption spectrophotometry, the content of 4 heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr), in the strobila of gravid tapeworm specimens Parvitaenia arddeolae Burt, 1940 (Dilepididae), were determined. The same heavy metal concentrations were also determined in the liver and muscle of the definitive host Ardea cinerea (Ciconiiformes). In the tapeworm biomass the following values of HMs (in 100% dry matter in mg.kg) were found: Cd= 0.52?0.05, Pb= 5.63?1.12, Ni= 1.71?0.63, Cr 0.63?0.04. In the hosts liver tissues: Cd= 0.03?0.01, Pb= 0.21?0.03, Ni= 0.02?0.01 and Cr= 0.04?0.01, and in the muscle of the same host: Cd= 0.02?0.01, Pb= 0.20?0.02, Ni= 0.03?0.01 and Cr 0.03?0.01. Generally, the accumulation of 4 HMs in the P. ardeolae - gravid specimens werehigher than in the liver tissue or muscles of the definitive host.
