Accumulation of heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Cr, Cd) in Microsomacanthus parvula (Cestoda) and the host Anas crecca (Aves).
Original language description
Using the atomic absorption spectrophotometry, the content of 4 heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr), in the gravid strobila of tapeworm specimens Microsomacanthus parvula (Kowalewski, 1904) (Hymenolepididae), was determined. The same heavy metal concentrationswere also determined in the liver and muscle of the definitive host Anas crecca. In the tapeworm biomass the following values of HMs (in 100% dry matter in mg.kg) were found: Cd= 0.16?0.05, Pb= 4.91?2.11, Ni= 1.31?0.68, Cr 0.72?0.03. In the hosts liver tissues: Cd= 0.09?0.01, Pb= 0.17?0.04, Ni= 0.06?0.02 and Cr= 0.15?0.02, in the muscle of the same host: Cd= 0.05?0.03, Pb= 0.15?0.03, Ni= 0.03?0.01 and Cr 0.08?0.02. Generally, the accumulation of 4 HMs in the P. ardeolae - gravid specimens were higher than the content of HMs in the liver tissue or muscles of the definitive host. The highest value was determined in the case of Pb, the least in Cd.
