Harvester Technology as a Ecology Factor by Thinning
Original language description
Damages caused during logging and skidding operations on thinning stage stand trees in using tree-length logging and short-length logging were classified according to the modified McMahon methodology. In 1999, some 50 stands of an area of 307 ha were evaluated in this way. In these stands, 13 696 m3 were felled. In the course of felling and skidding operations, 8 harvesters and 7 forwarders, respectively were observed. Based on measurements and comparisons of the results obtained, harvester logging wasfound to be more environmentally-friendly technology.
