Distribution of E modulus within the stem
Original language description
Three stems of Juglans nigra had been chopped down and several logs from different heights have been cut out. Consecutively, specimens for compression test have been cut out and the compressive tests in the direction of fibers were carried out to learn the mechanical properties. The moisture and the density of wood have been measured too. Than the variability and distribution of wood properties was probed, and the function describing distribution of these properties through the diameter and height of the tree have been detected. The founded function was used in special routine to calculate fitted material constants for the numerical simulation of the stems behavior under load. This simulation has been carried out using the ANSYS software package. The steady state analysis been done, and the stress and the strain distribution over the stem have been estimated.
