At the Horticultural Faculty in Lednice na Morave there is located a collection of grapevine hybrids and varieties coordinated by National program for preservation of genetic resources in the Czech Republic. Introduction , conservation and breeding of new fungus resistant varieties is a main aim to improvement of grapevine sortiment. North American Vitis spp. are still the primary source of new properties used in grapevine breeding. Asian species, such as Vitis amurensis and Vitis armata posess severaldesirable traits. American and Asian species and latter the french hybrids from Baco, Seibel and Seyve Villard are valuable sources of cold hardiness, and resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew and gray mould. Many of new interspecific varieties originated from Hungary, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Austria, Yugoslavia and Czech Republic. Important morphological and stress characters are followed in this pool.
