In three herds of beef cattle, the occurrence of zinc, copper, manganese and selenium deficiencies in pregnant cows and heifers aged 12 to 14 months was monitored. In each herd, 6 cows and 6 heifers were examined. Serum zinc, copper and manganese concentrations were measured. Only a sporadic occurrence of zinc was diagnosed in heifers in one of the herds under investigation. Copper, manganese and selenium deficiencies were found in the cows and heifers in all the herds under study, the most serious being selenium deficiency. Serum selenium concentrations in the heifers ranged from 19.3 to 69.81 g/l, those in the cows ranged from 13.49 to 43.74 g/l.

Czech description

Ve třech chovech masného skotu byl sledován výskyt karence zinku , mědi, manganu a selenu u březích krav a jalovic ve stáří 12 až 14 měsíců. V každém chovu bylo vyšetřeno 6 krav a 6 jalovic. Koncentrace zinku, mědi a manganu byly stanoveny v krevním séru, koncentrace selenu byla stanovena v krvi. Karence zinku byla diagnostikována pouze ojediněle u jalovic v jednom chovu. Karence mědi, manganu a selenu byla zjištěna u krav i jalovic ve všech sledovaných chovech, přičemž karence selenu byla nejzávažnější. Koncentrace selenu v krvi jalovic se pohybovala v rozmezí 19,13 až 69,81 ug/l a v krvi březích krav v rozmezí 13,49 až 43,74 ug/l.
