Synthetic colloids may be used to restore blood volume and, indirectly, to increase blood pressure during anaesthesia. In this study we compared the impact of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) of various concentrations and molecular weight (HES 200/0.5 as a 6% solution - HAES 6 and as a 10% solution - HAES 10, and HES 130/0.4 as a 6% solution - Voluven) with of 0.9% saline solution (Saline) on the cardiovascular system.
