Activation of pro-apoptotic caspases in zebrafish skeletogenesis
Original language description
Caspases belong to a family of highly conserved aspartate-specific cysteine proteases best known for their critical roles in mediating apoptosis and inflammatory responses. As transducers and executioners of programmed cell death, caspases are especially important during development, for the elimination of unwanted cells contributes to tissue morphogenesis. More recently, caspases also emerged as mediators of non-apoptotic signalling associated with several cellular and physiological functions. This includes skeletal development.
