Platelet indices in dogs with gastric dilatation and volvulus - retrospective study
Original language description
Platelets and their indices were recently reported to have significant prognostic value in human patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Several studies found significantly increased mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) caused by platelet activation in non-surviving septic patients. In dogs, prognostic significance of platelet indices was described only for septic peritonitis and Babesia rossi infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of platelet indices in dogs with gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV).
