The environmental transmission route of Toxoplasma gondii infection, through the ingestion of oocysts, is considered more relevant than earlier thought. However, discrimination between oocysts-and tissue cysts-driven infections is still a challenge. We evaluated the source-attributing potential of a panel of T. gondii-specific proteins following a screening workflow.
