Original language description
Contamination of soil and grass by PCB indicator congeners and PAHs was assessed in the marginal zone of the Brno region. The sampling sites were located in the vicinity of a road leading along a leisure water reservoir and on pastures of a large farm situated along another road. Samplings were done each site in June and August on 1999, 2000 and 2001. Forthy five soil samples and thirty five grass samples were collected on each sampling. Dry matter was determinated in all the soil and grass samples. Samples were homogenised and moisture was removed by grinding them with anhydrous sodium sulphate. The material was extracted several times and sonicated to obtain an extract containing the analytes. Dichlormethane-methanol (9:1) and hexane-acetone (94:6) as eluting agents. PAHs were identified and determined by HPLC with fluorescence and DAD detectors and PCBs by an HRGC/ECD dual system using two columns.
